keep in mind that if you make purchases with it as a visa/mastercard
you will be charged a Philippine side "surcharge" based on the amount
of the purchase, as well, in some banks, as a usa charge for using
overseas.

[LinP3] Bringing a Philippine lady and her daughter to the USA

Mark,

Roughly a couple thousand dollars, with a caveat! The adopted daughter must
already meet the legal requirements for a Philippines legal adoption and the
U.S. immigration requirements for adopted children.

The most cost-effective way is to bring her and the child (if meeting U.S.
immigrtion requirements for an adopted child) as a fiancee and derivative
child visa (K1 and K2).

SRRV - Construction of a residential unit on a leased parcel of land;

Just read through the stuff on PRA site about srrv, and notice item 3
of the areas a member can invest is "Construction of a residential unit
on a leased parcel of land;"

I assume this is because as a foreigner you cannot own the land, but I
think if I were to buld a house then my wife would probably buy the
land. Don’t like the idea of leasing.

Bringing a Philippine lady and her daughter to the USA

What would it cost to bring a lady and her adopted daughter to the USA
in money and time? What is the most cost effective way to do so.
Assuming she is starting from scratch.
Assuming for marriage.
Please spare me the "You are a dumb a*s" comments. At least start
another thread, please.

rental cars in cebu

does anyone know an inexpensive place/places to rent a car in Cebu
City? The last time I was there we paid over 2500 pesos for 1 day
rental. I thought that was a little high (we had our own driver).

I use my US Banking Card here to withdraw money from the ATMs. Just look at the back of your card it should tell you what kind of ATMs it is compatible with mine has the Cirrus and Star logo on the back. When you go to an ATM it will show the different card it supports Cirrus etc. Also remember if you plan on using your card abroad to notify your bank’s cards fraud department that you will be your card in "X" country because if you don’t they could lock your card thinking it has been somehow stolen Hope that helps.

Mindanao papers

A birth cert can be gotten here;

http://www.census.gov.ph/data/civilreg/index.html

As for school records that will have to be gotten from wherever she
attended school. She can finish her high school wherever you are
living. Just being around native English speakers will help her
English much more than high school. Most schools in more remote
areas the teachers have very limited English skills, so naturally
the students come away with very rudimentary skills at best. A part
time ESL tutor may be worth the investment to help her grammar,
structure, etc.

There are several forum members who live in the Butuan area.

I have been to the Philippines twice. (If you call Boracay and Manila
the Philippines) On my last vist I meet a young lady from Dipolog City,
We had a great time and have kept in contact via e-mail.. YM… Phone
calls (costly :)) I plan on returning back this march and she wants me
to travel with her back to Dipolog City to meet her family. I am
alittle concerned, I read the travel warnings from various gov agencies
saying Americans should not travel to Minderio (sorry for the
spelling). I have some friends here in the states who are from the
Philippines and I never can tell if they are joking or not when they
tell of all the bad things that can and will happen there.

We have carried along distance relationship for a year now and I do
believe if we were to decide to take this any fathure I owe here and
her family the respect of meeting them. But is it safe for me to travel
there?

One last time

B-Ray,

Thanks for your excellent post. Carol and I are buying a house here in
Iloilo. I have wracked my brain on the title issue, not because I don’t
trust my wife, I do, 200%, but because we don’t have kids and in the
unlikely event she predeceases me, 50% or 100% of the property will go to
her family - depending on whose ideas of "hereditary succession" you
accept. I had toyed with the idea of separate ownership of the lot (my
wife) and the house (me). As you point out, this is totally unrealistic.
All of the various schemes to give the foreign husband ownership are just
convoluted wishful thinking. We will title the property to my wife and her
foreign husband and let it go at that. If Carol predeceases me, I will try
to work with her family to allow me to continue to live in the house, a
house which they will eventually inherit in any case.
